# Checkout

Checkout is how travellers book on your website. It's built to convert: one clear price that already includes fees and taxes, seats held while they pay, and no account to create. This page explains what travellers see so you can answer their questions and set your tours up well.

## The booking steps

1. **Choose a date.** The booking box on the tour page shows open departures with live prices. **See all dates & prices** opens the full calendar.
2. **Choose the option and travellers.** The price updates as travellers are added, with any group price applied.
3. **Continue to checkout.** Tourtify holds the seats ("Securing your seats…").
4. **Customise your trip** (optional): extras and upgrades, when the [Add-ons & extras](/plugins/add-ons-and-extras) plugin is on.
5. **Your details**: lead traveller name, email and phone, plus "Anything we should know?".
6. **How much to pay now**: pay in full, or **Pay a deposit now** when the [Deposits](/plugins/deposits) plugin is on.
7. **Pay with**: the traveller picks from your connected payment providers and pays on the provider's secure page.
8. **Confirmation**: a thank-you page and the booking confirmation email with a PDF.

## Seat holds

| While held | The seats count as taken; nobody else can book them |
| Paid in time | The booking is confirmed |
| Not paid | The hold expires, the booking shows **Expired** and the seats go back on sale |

The checkout shows "Your seats are held" so the traveller knows they have time.

## Prices are all-in

Advertised prices include every fee and tax ("All fees and taxes included"). If a tax is set as not included, or the [Booking fees](/plugins/booking-fees) plugin adds a fee, the tour page and checkout already show the total. Prices are re-checked live at checkout; if a price changed in the meantime, the traveller is told before paying.

## Trust signals travellers see

- **Book direct with the operator**: no middleman fees.
- **Secure payment**: payment happens on your provider's secure page.
- **Instant confirmation**: by email straight away (instant booking mode).
- **Reserve with a deposit**: pay the rest later (with Deposits).

## Other booking flows

| Situation | What travellers see |

| Request to book | "Request to book", details form, "Send booking request". No payment until you confirm. |
| Enquiry only | "Price on request" and "Ask about this trip" |
| Departure full | "This departure is full." and a sold-out request, or **Join the waitlist** with the [Waitlist](/plugins/waitlist) plugin |
| No open dates | "No open dates right now" and an enquiry form |

## Cart

Travellers can add several trips to a cart and check out each one on its own: every departure has its own seats and payment. The cart is kept on the traveller's device only.

## Abandoned checkouts

When a traveller leaves without paying, the [Abandoned checkout](/plugins/abandoned-checkout) plugin can send one follow-up email with a link to resume.
